Tips for wearing a corsage or buttonhole

Corsages and buttonholes are suited for various formal events like weddings and fancy dances. This floral accessory is designed to make your dress or suit look even better. That said, it’s important to know how to wear them. In other words – where and how to position these mini flower arrangements.

Buttonholes

Also known as boutonnières, they are worn by men and placed on the left apel of their jacket. Contrary to the name, they are not to be placed directly in the button hole. Insetad, it should be towards the outside of the lapel. They need to be secured using a pin. Preferably one with a larger pearl head. It’s only the decorative pearl that should be seen, the rest should be fairly hidden from sight. While the left side is the usual position for a buttonhole, if you want to wear yours on the right, you should make sure that the rest of your wedding party is on the same page.

Corsages

There are various designs when ti comes to corsages. Wrist corsages are the most popular but corsages that are worn like buttonholes are also especially lovely. The wrist variety is often decorated further with a beautiful wrist strap, beads, and other accessories. The pin on variety is usually larger and more luxurious than your average buttonhole. It too may include small accessories for extra sparkle. The exact position of the pin on corsage will depend on the style of the dress. If you don’t want to poke holes in your dress, then the wrist design is your best bet.

No matter what you choose, it’s always important to order your corsage or buttonhole in advance. Have it delivered the day before the event and store as per the instructions provided by your florist.
