Warm colours for summer flowers
Summer flower bouquets are known for being bright, vibrant, and warm. Just like the season itself, these arrangements are designed with the warm weather in mind. Plenty of sunshine, longer days, and more than ample fun are all part of the perfect recipe. So, when looking for the perfect bunch to brighten your home in summer, which blooms should be at the top of your list?
There are some obvious favourites like roses, chrysanthemums, and tulips. These flowers are all available in a wide variety of colours including red, orange, yellow, and pink. All four of these colours are known as warm colours which is exactly what you’re looking for.
If you want something a bit more unusual, you could opt for gladiolas. They are available in dark red, orange-red, and bright yellow. These blooms live up to their name in every way. They have a stunning, grand appearance and they will give your arrangement wonderful height as well.
Dahlias are also available in various warm colours and they are known for their full appearance. The way in which the petals are shaped and arranged give these blooms amazing texture while the bright colours can easily steal the show. Look for yellow, red, and even dark burgundy. Dark tones like burgundy are great for highlighting the brightness of the other blooms in the arrangement.
Chocolate cosmos also offer that dark contrast. These flowers also live up to their name when it comes to colour and scent! Not only are they dark in colour (like chocolate), but they also give off a chocolate scent.
If you want to go all out, you can embrace the tropical or exotic aspects of summer by adding bright lilies or other exotic flowers like the beautiful bird of paradise. Dark green foliage will give this bouquet a lush appearance much like that of a rain forest.
During the warm months, it’s especially important that you pay attention to the water needs of your cut flowers. Water is not only absorbed by the flower stems but it also evaporates at faster rate during hot weather. Make sure that you top up your vase if necessary but, preferably, place your flowers in a bucket of clean water while you clean your vase and fill it up with fresh water. Keep your flowers out of the sun and away from any air conditioners and fans.
