Tissue paper flowers – how to make your own

If you have ever tried to make flowers out of various materials around your home, you will know just how much fun it can be. Not to mention the fact that such crafts allow you to really explore your creative side. Tissue paper flowers are a lot of fun to make and they don’t require too much skill or expensive supplies. Simply gather the items you will need and follow the simple steps below.

You will need:

– Tissue paper in various colours

– Green pipe cleaners

– String or thread

– Scissors

Directions:

  • To begin making tissue paper flowers, you will need to cut the tissue paper into squares approximately 12” by 12”. There is no need for them to be perfect since you will be trimming the edges anyway.

  • Place four pieces of tissue paper on top of one another. You can use a single colour or multiple colours, depending on the result you wish to create.

  • Fold all of the pieces of paper like an accordion. The smaller the folds, the better.

  • Once this is done, fold the accordion design in half to establish the mid-point.

  • Secure the paper accordion in place using some thin string or sewing thread.

  • Trim each end of the paper so that they are nicely rounded.

  • Wrap one end of the pipe cleaner around the mid-point of the paper and twist to secure. This will form the stem of your flower.

  • Open up the accordion on either side and gently separate each layer of paper.

  • Fluff up the paper petals so that you have a beautiful round paper bloom.

  • Repeat these steps as many times as you need to create a bouquet.

  • You can also use these flowers to create a floral headband or other accessories if you like.

Not only are these tissue paper flowers fun and easy to make, but they are also a great flower craft you can enjoy with your younger family members. When the weather isn’t suitable for playing outside, you can keep everyone entertained with a fun winter flower craft.
