Rustic blooms – which ones are best

When you hear the word rustic, you most likely automatically imagine certain decorative elements. When you think about rustic blooms, you might not be quite as sure. There are some elements that you might be familiar with. However, there are also a lot of subtle elements that are not always that obvious. To ensure that you have all your bases covered, here’s what you need to know about creating a rustic flower arrangement.

Colour choices

One of the main things that you will notice when it comes to rustic style is the very specific colour pallet. While most colours can be used in these displays, it will largely depend on the shades you choose as well as how they are combined in the bouquet. For example, if you choose bright pink blooms, dark purple flowers and luscious green foliage, your bouquet will not take on the rustic appearance. On the other hand, rustic blooms should have more of a pastel shade like dusty pink, rusty orange and off-white.

One or more colours

While it is acceptable to stick to a single colour in your design, most bouquets of rustic blooms will include several colours. They will take on more of a wild flower look than a perfectly orchestrated arrangement. Of course, if you are set on a single colour, you could consider something like pale pink paired with gold or copper elements and some dusty green foliage.

Natural style

If you completely dislike the idea of pastels, not to worry, you can opt for some brighter blooms but you need to make sure that you choose the right types of flowers for the job. In other words, you should look for blooms that resemble those that grow in fields rather than lilies and roses. The best colours to opt for are warm colours like orange and yellow. Of course, for contrast, you can add splashes of dark purple here and there.

Vase choices

Don’t forget that your vase is just as important as the rustic blooms themselves. You cannot expect the arrangement to take on a rustic theme if you place it in an abstract or luxurious vase. Look for one made from porcelain, pottery or at least one that has an earthy colour to it. You could even use things like old watering cans or anything that has a copper or bronze colour.

Once ready, your rustic blooms are best displayed in your kitchen or living room. This is where you will spend most of your time and your guests too. You want the arrangement to be admired and appreciated so don’t hide it away in your room.
