Flowers for shady and sunny areas

When you receive a fresh flower delivery, it’s always a wonderful surprise and the bouquet will brighten your home or office for several days. Of course, no matter how well you take care of the bunch, they will eventually perish. If you, like many people out there, want a more regular supply of fresh flowers without having to buy a new bunch every month, then why not put your garden to work? Remember, even if you only grow flowers during the warmer months of the year, you can still save and enjoy a beautiful garden too. Of course, it’s important to understand that flowers are kind of like people. They each have their own preferences when it comes to their conditions. By understanding this, you wil be able to plant the right flowers in sunny and shady parts of your garden and home.

If you live in an area where the summer season is particularly harsh, then you might want to look for cacti or other succulents. Some work well as potted plants in your home but there are also those that can thrive in a pot in your garden. Not all cacti have thorns so, if you have pets or small children, you can choose the variety accordingly. Different types of cacti grow to different sizes so make sure that you do your research before buying one. In addition, it’s important to note that these plants grow quite slowly but if you have a flowering variety, it will also offer some of the most colourful blooms. You might not be able to pick them but you surely can enjoy the sight of them!

For a cooler part of your home with minimal light, you should look for something like the Arabian Violet. These plants love cooler conditions with plenty of water, humidity, and indirect sunlight. If you want to up the humidity level around the plant, simply place a tray of pebbles under the pot and fill it with water. The soil will not absorb the water but it will keep the air humid as it evaporates.

There are also those flowers that enjoy sun in the morning but prefer cooler conditions later on. Primrose is a good example and they should be placed in an area of your home or garden where the morning sun will greet them but the harsher afternoon sun will not reach.

Roses and miniature roses can be a bit more demandiing when it comes to sunlight, pruning, and other elements of plant care. The plant enjoys sun, humidity, and frequent watering. The leaves can be misted but this should be done early in the morning or late in the afternoon to prevent the plant from burning.

As you can tell, different types of plants enjoy different conditions and, as long as you find the right spot in your home or garden, they will thrive. The best tip to remember is to look at the area you want to decorate and analyse the conditions. With this information, you can look for a plant that best suits this area.
