Flower petal soap DIY

Probably one of the most difficult rooms in the house to furnish is the bathroom. Bathroom furnishings are limited compared to the rest of the house and are often limited by the size of the room. As much as you want to decorate your bathroom, you also want it to look clean, hygienic and tidy. Small potted plants and fresh flowers are perfect for decorating almost any bathroom and are great for adding colour. Of course, when you want more than just an elegant arrangement of fresh flowers or a lush potted plant, you can venture out and make your own flower petal soap. This will not only add colour and style to your bathroom, but will also give it that special touch that will make your guests feel welcome. They are really easy to make by following these simple steps:

You will need:

  • Small silk flower petals (rose petals are the most popular choice)

  • Your choice of essential oil

  • Hard glycerine

  • Wax paper

  • Microwave safe bowl

  • Tweezers

  • Plastic storage container or gift bags

Directions:

  • Gently remove the silk flower petals from the stems so as not to damage them.

  • Place the glycerine in a microwave safe bowl and heat for about 1 minute or until the glycerine melted.

  • Add your essential oil or oils to the glycerine. These oils are concentrated so you do not need a lot.

  • Place up to 4 petals into the glycerine mixture so that they can soak it up.

  • Remove the petals slowly from the mixture before placing them on a sheet of wax paper.

  • Once they are try, you can store your flower petal soap in a cool, dry place.

Good tips to remember:

  • Always prepare your work surface before you start making your flower petal soap.

  • Use tweezers to dip and remove the petals.

  • Make sure that you place the petals on a flat surface to dry.

  • Store your flower petal soap in an airtight container to preserve their scent.

  • Keep these soaps out of the light as it will discolour the glycerine.

One of the best parts about this fun craft is that you really get to experiment with all kinds of petals and scents. Roses are one of the most popular flowers, but remember that using rose petals doesn’t mean you have to use rose scented oils. A really fantastic idea is to use different fragrances depending on the colours of the petals. Remember that you’re not limited to oils with floral scents either! Your only limit is your creativity and imagination. Just as you would normally send flowers as a gift to a loved one or friend, you can also send these home-made soaps. Choose a colour based on the colour scheme of the recipient’s bathroom to give it that thoughtful touch. If you are unsure about the colour scheme or design of the bathroom, you can package a variety of colours and put them all together in a gift bag. Gift bags filled with home-made flower petal soap also make adorable party favours for special events. Select the colour of the petals based on the event colour scheme and place them on each table. Gift bags can be made from any material, as long as you choose something transparent so your guests can see and smell their gift.
