Flower crown – make one before summer is over
During the summer months, there is an abundance of fresh flowers. This is the perfect time for you to make your very own flower crown. All you need is a few basic supplies and a bit of imagination. Here are the steps you need to follow to make a stunning floral headpiece.
You will need:
- Flowers (suggestions are detailed below)
- Foliage (suggestions are detailed below)
- Floral tape for wrapping the stems together
- Sharp pair of scissors
- A roll of craft wire
- Floral wire for securing your flowers
Flowers and foliage for your flower crown:
There are a number of types of flowers that you can use in your crown. For focal flowers, you should look for spray roses, daisies, carnations and even peonies. Your filler flowers can consist of statice, baby’s breath, snapdragons and similar blooms. As for foliage, some beautiful options include ivy, eucalyptus and lemon leaf.
Step 1: Shape your floral crown
Use your craft wire to create the base for your flower crown. Measure the size you need by wrapping the wire around the top of your head. Make sure that you leave about half an inch of wiggle room. When you attach the flowers, it will make it smaller. If you are planning on wearing your hair a certain way, you should arrange your hair like this before making your crown to fit.
Step 2: Wrap the foliage around the wire
Use the floral tape to secure the stems from the foliage to the floral wire. You want to create a lush green base and conceal all of the wire.
Step 3: Create small bunches of flowers
Take three flowers and wrap the stems together with floral tape. Wrap the tape from the base of the stems around the wire to secure your flowers to the wire frame. Make sure that you combine your focal and filler flowers in these bunches.
Step 4: Final touches
Make sure that you attach all of the floral bunches facing one direction on your flower crown. If you like, you can create a main focal point by using additional focal flowers in a particular position. The best spot for this focal bunch is usually towards the front or on the side.
As you can see, creating your very own flower crown is extremely easy and it doesn’t take long at all. You can wear it to a fun summer party and you can even make them for your kids. Children love wearing flowers and this crown will always make a fabulous statement.
