Favourite flowers to send for Christmas

When you send flowers for Christmas, you obviously want to send a perfect bouquet. Different flowers suit different occasions and Christmas is no exception. The good news is that even though it’s winter, your online florist will have more than enough options to choose from! Here are some of our favourite flowers for the holidays.

Red, white and green

The first main point to address is the colour scheme. Christmas is associated with red, white and green. Although other colours have been introduced over the years, these three are considered the foundation of Christmas decor. Therefore, your Christmas flower arrangement should consist of some red blooms, deep green leaves and maybe a few whites here and there, just in case. Although white stems are not necessarily essential. Take poinsettias for example. These potted plants are associated with Christmas but these favourite flowers are red and the leaves are dark green. There’s not even a hint of white in this design, but it’s as festive as they come!

Types of blooms

The perfect flowers to choose for a Christmas bouquet include roses, carnations and chrysanthemums. These three are almost always available at your local florist and are usually reasonably priced too. Yes, roses are generally a little more expensive, but you can more than justify this extra expense by adding inexpensive flowers to the mix. Red roses accompanied by white carnations and some dark green leaves will be more than enough!

Festive Vase

Don’t forget the vase! Make sure to choose a suitable coloured vase based on the main colour of your bouquet. Remember, when in doubt, choose a clear glass vase! You can always spice it up with a red or red and gold ribbon. Whichever of these favourite flowers you choose for the holidays, they will always look better in a Christmas-themed vase.

Holiday accessories

Accessories can also help emphasize the Christmas theme of your favourite flowers. Add bells or balloons to the arrangement by attaching them to skewers (painted green) or floral wire covered with green floral ribbon.

If you’re not entirely sure about fresh flowers or know that the recipient is planning to go away for Christmas, then you may prefer artificial or even paper flowers. Artificial flowers, such as poinsettias, are easily available and there are many excellent imitations on the market. You don’t have to settle for the cheap and tacky ones. Spend a fraction more and you can have a bouquet that looks just like the original, but without irritating allergies or requiring care! Remember, if your favourite flowers are not in season, you can always ask your florist for some suggestions.
