Make floral gel candles yourself

If you love flowers as well as candles, why not combine these two and make your own floral gel candles? While you could buy them, there is nothing more rewarding than making them yourself. Once you have made a few, you could even make some for your friends and family as gifts.

What you need:

– Glass container

– Gel wax

– Wick with a zinc base

– Hot glue

– Dye or colourant

– Fragrance or essential oils

– Stainless steel pots

– Floral decorative items

– A pair of tweezers

Method:

  • There are a few things to keep in mind before you begin. When choosing the materials for your candles, you need to use a glass container that is heat resistant. If not, it could crack when the mixture heats up. It’s also best if you use a clear container so that you can see the designs clearly. The wick needs a zinc base to make it easier to glue to the bottom of the glass container. As for the dyes, you could use just about anything but you need to take some care when choosing your essential oils. It’s best to use oils that are clear so that they don’t alter the colour of the candle. Finally, make sure that you don’t use flammable items to decorate your candles.

  • When choosing the gel wax, you should use high density gel wax. The other varieties are not dense enough to hold the decorative items in place.

  • Cut the wax into chunks and place them in stainless steel pots.

  • Preheat the oven to 225 degrees F. You need to wax to reach and maintain a temperature of 200 degrees F.

  • While melting the wax, you can secure the metal base of the wick to your container. Use some hot glue and it will do the trick perfectly.

  • Use your tweezers to dip your decorative items (like flower petals) in the wax before positioning them inside the container.

  • Add the dye to your wax along with your essential oils.

  • If you want to play it safe, you can heat your container to 150 degrees before adding the gel. This can help prevent cracking.

  • The wick needs to be upright and straight in the middle of the container.

  • Pour the gel into the container and allow it to stand until the gel sets. This takes about 4 hours.

  • Trim the wick and enjoy your new candle or package as a gift.
