Huge vegetables, impressed crowds!

Gorgeous flowers and huge vegetables wowed crowds earlier this week at the Harrowgate Autumn Flower Show. The three day event, which is held at the Great Yorkshire Show ground, attracted over 35,000 people, surely helped along by the fantastic weather!

Peter Glazebrook took away an amazing six first prize places in the giant vegetable catagories, including giant marrow. The marrow weighed a whopping 119lbs 12oz, and weightlifter Jonathon Walker was on hand to show just how heavy it really was.

Mr Glazebrook also broke his own world record for the heaviest onion, coming in at 18lbs 1oz, as well as winning again with a 81lb 6oz cabbage!

Ex Countdown star Carol Vorderman also stopped by in her search for the area’s best loved recipe, due to be televised soon.

Visitors could take tours of the garden border completion entries, returning after its debut last year. There was also a cookery studio where student chefs from Leeds City and Harrogate colleges battling in a Ready-Steady-Cook showdown.

Camilla Harrison, one of the organisers of the show said; “We have had an absolutely fantastic show. It’s been a tremendous three days and the weather has been really kind to us. The standard of the entries in both the vegetable classes and the flowers has been tremendous bearing in mind we had a very difficult growing season. Growers have really pulled out all the stops.”
