Floral preparations for Halloween

Halloween may only be at the end of the month but planning ahead is always a good idea when it comes to such popular events. Especially if you intend on hosting a Halloween party or dinner. When you want your home to look its best, the right flowers can and do make all the difference. Even when it comes to scary occasions like Halloween, flowers still have their role to play.

The first thing you will need to decide is if you would like to make fresh or silk flower arrangements. Fresh flowers will need to be arranged as close to the event as possible whereas silk arrangements can be made in advance. You could opt for a few silk bouquets and a few fresh ones if you like. It all depends on how much time you have available and how much you like to plan ahead.

The second tip to remember is your colour scheme. Every event and occasion has its very own colour scheme and Halloween is no different. Orange and black are the top two choices but even white can play a role in your spooky décor. Pumpkins are orange, spiders and bats are black, and ghosts as well as spider webs. So, keep these colours in mind when designing your Halloween flower arrangements.

Now that you know the basics, it’s time to get creative! Pumpkins make excellent vases but you will need to line them with an actual waterproof vase or container to prevent the inside of the pumpkin from affecting the health of your flowers. You could also use floral foam if you prefer.

Flowers do not generally come in black so, if you want to add a black element to the arrangement, you can do so in the form of painted or coloured items including feathers, sticks, and even toy spiders, for example.

One of the best ways to set the stage for your Halloween fun is by decorating your entry door with a spooky wreath! If you have a wreath made from leafless vines, for example, you could spray paint it black before adding orange and white accessories.

If you are serving cake for dessert, you can also decorate the cake with some Halloween-inspired colours and accessories. For instance, you could create the appearance of a web covering the cake with plastic spiders here and there. Add some orange flowers around the base and it looks both spooky and colourful.
