Summer blooms perfect for bathrooms

Many people face space issues when it comes to decorating their bathroom. The truth of the matter is, when guests visit, they’re sure to make at least one trip to your bathroom. For this reason, you want it to look as hygienic as possible while continuing the welcoming feel of the rest of your home. Potted flowers and plants are one of the most popular ways to decorate a bathroom. Especially fresh and fragrant flowers that will help mask the smell of cleaning and cleaning solutions. However, before you run to the florist or ask for flower delivery, there are a number of things you should consider before decorating your bathroom with summer blooms.

Flowers or potted plants

During the summer you can expect very hot days and if the only space you have for your pot is next to a window where the sun tends to shine directly then that’s not a good idea. Cut flowers, even summer blooms, should be kept out of direct sunlight. A better alternative for you would be a potted plant that particularly enjoys direct sun and warm conditions.

Humid areas

Also keep in mind that bathing and showering make the air very humid, so choose a plant or cut flower that doesn’t mind these conditions. Tropical or exotic flowers will do very well in these conditions. A wonderful suggestion are lilies or orchids. Orchids will cost you a little more and unfortunately they are not in season during the summer. You can use them during the spring, autumn and winter months while, when it comes to summer blooms, you can make a change by decorating with some stargazers or gannets. Both have very strong scents so they are really perfect! Stargazers and callas come in pink and white, so you can add a pop of colour with pink or keep it more neutral with white.

Roses

Roses also don’t mind hot conditions, and while they’re available year-round, they really are summer blooms. Be sure to take your time when selecting your roses and choose ones that are still in bud form but have started to open. Scent is important, so take your time to smell the roses as they say.

Orchids

When you are looking for long-lasting flowers, you could opt for carnations if you are on a budget. If you are able to invest in something a bit more luxurious, you should consider orchids. For the most part, instead of choosing a cut orchid, a potted plant would prove more impressive and it will last that much longer. You can enjoy watching it bloom year after year.

As with any bouquet, it’s always best to buy seasonal flowers. Not only are they cheaper, but they often last longer than imported flowers or those grown under artificial conditions. Flowers native to your particular location would also be a good bet when it comes to price and staying power. So, when shopping, ask your florist about the best summer blooms they have to offer and you may also find that they are even more affordable too!
