Submerged arrangement design tips and ideas

Decorative centrepieces can be found in all shapes and sizes. There are so many amazing designs from which to choose which is why it can be difficult to choose. One of the most popular, yet simple, designs you can create yourself is a submerged arrangement. Here is a list of what you will need and the steps to follow.

You will need:

  • Fresh or silk flowers for your submerged arrangement
  • Foliage to suit the flowers you choose
  • A transparent vase like a tall cylinder or fish bowl.
  • Fishing sinkers and fishing line to hold your blooms in place and under water.
  • Pretty accessories like pebbles, stones, seashells etc
  • Floral tape
  • Distilled water (so that there are no bubbles)
  • LED lights (optional)

Directions:

  • Before you begin creating your submerged arrangement, you need to make sure that you clean your vase thoroughly.
  • You will need to plan the number of flowers you will need for your display. If you are using a fishbowl, for example, you need to choose one main larger
  • If you are using fresh flowers, make sure that you trim the stems at an angle so that they don’t end up resting flat on the bottom of the vase.
  • If you are using artificial flowers, make sure that you test them for any colours that may run.
  • Group your flowers together and secure their stems with floral tape.
  • Fasten fishing line to the stems and add the sinker to keep them at just the right height.
  • Place your flowers in the vase.
  • Add some stones around the stems and cover the sinker,
  • Add accessories like an LED light if you like.
  • Fill the vase with distilled water and enjoy!

Remember, you can create a submerged arrangement using just about any type of flowers you like. Just remember, once under water, any flaws with artificial flowers will become more evident. This is because water acts like a magnifying glass.
