Peter Beales roses win gold at the Chelsea Flower Show
A flower company, which was started by a man who grew roses for the queen, has won gold at the 100th Chelsea Flower Show. The gold is the 20th the company have won at the flower show and comes five months after the sad passing of Peter Beales.
Peter Beales Roses, which hails from Attleborough, won the prestigious award by having a stand in the Great Pavilion, featuring follies surrounded by climbing roses.
The award is a fitting tribute to Mr Beales who was 76 when he passed away in January. His son Richard said the award added to his father’s amazing legacy.
The stand features over 1,100 rose plants including Pippin, a new rose which has been created in Mr Beales’ honour.
Mr Beales was the rose grower who grew the Queen’s rose for her diamond jubilee last year. He was known as one of the world’s leading rose growers.
Mr Beales was awarded the Victoria Medal of Honour by the RHS in recognition and admiration of his sensational success as a rose grower. His business began in 1968 when he opened a shop in Swardeston. It was a business which took him around the world growing roses for over four decades before his death.
