Honouring a loved one with flowers

When you lose a loved one, it can be difficult to come to terms with your grief. Nature has the wonderful ability to help us heal after such devastating events and flowers can help you enjoy the closure you need and deserve.

Plant a garden

A memorial garden could be just what you need to set your heart at ease. All you need to do is choose a spot in your garden and select your plants. You can save space for annuals as well as perennial flowers if you would like to make regular changes to your garden. You can also invest in a bench to install in this part of your garden so that you have a comfortable place to sit and reflect. You may like to add some solar powered garden lights and have something like their name, initials or a motivational quote engraved somewhere like on the bench, on a large stone or somewhere you know it will stand the test of time.

Make a memory box

Keeping all of your loved one’s most memorable belongings in one place is not only convenient, but also comforting. You can make your own memory box out of just about anything. The exterior does not even need to be pretty because you can transform it using pressed flowers! Once your box is ready, you can add things like photos, special jewellery and anything else that they treasured.

Create keepsakes

Flowers are great for creating beautiful keepsakes too. For example, you can press or dry flowers and place them in a frame along with the programme from the funeral. You could even have a photograph of your loved one enlarged and framed along with their favourite flowers pressed around the picture as a frame within the frame.

Just because your loved one is no longer with you does not mean that you cannot celebrate their life. You can honour them daily with flowers in so many unique and special ways. When you do, think about plants and flowers that represent your loved one or your relationship with them. It’s important not to rush through or ignore the process of grieving and, instead, allow yourself to embrace and truly feel all of those emotions. You will come out stronger on the other side.
