Herb wreath design steps and tips

Autumn is the perfect time of year to make your own wreath. Nature has so much to offer in terms of colours and inspiration. Even if you have never made one yourself, you can always start off by creating your own herb wreath. Not only do they look amazing, but they will also fill the room with a wonderful scent.

What you need:

  • Grapevine wreath
  • Paddling wire
  • Floral wire
  • A variety of herbs (Lavender, rosemary, mint and thyme all work well)

Directions:

  • Before you begin arranging your herb wreath, you need to take the time to rinse and dry your herbs. This ensures that they are not covered in any dust or fine soil.
  • One of your herbs should be the base for your wreath and it should be used to conceal the grapevine wreath to which you will attach everything.
  • Place all of the sprigs of your base herb in one direction all the way around the wreath. All sprigs need to face the same direction and you will need to cover the main face of the wreath as well as the rounded edges.
  • Use floral tape to secure all of your sprigs in place.
  • Next, you can use green paddling wire to ensure that your base herb is secured even more.
  • Now, you are ready to create small bundles of other herbs, secure the stems together and then attach them to the wreath with floral wire. Green is best since it will help conceal the wire itself.
  • You can add more paddling wire to secure everything in place once all your herb bundles are attached.
  • Add a hook or wire loop to the back of your wreath and hang in an area where you will be able to enjoy its beauty and superb scent on a daily basis.

Remember, your herbs will most likely dry out within a few days. However, this does not mean that you need to discard your herb wreath. In fact, dried wreaths are perfect for the autumn months so you could leave it in place until well into the winter season if you like.
