Flowers for luck
Whether you need some luck in your life or you want to wish somebody else good luck, there are several fresh flowers that can help you do just this. Some occasions that call for good luck flowers include approaching tests or exams, wishing a newly wed couple well, or wishing somebody luck with their new job. When shopping for a good luck bouquet, ask your florist if they have any of these flowers to add to the bouquet.
One of the most well-known symbols of luck is a four-leaf clover. Three-leaf clovers can be found with ease whereas four-leaf clovers are more difficult to find. Your florist might not have fresh clovers in stock but you could ask about decorative flower picks.
Another lucky option is flower known as the Bells of Ireland. These flowers are in fact native to Indonesia and they have the shape of green bells. This is where they get their name from and they are popular as part of St Patrick’s Day flower arrangements and even as wedding flowers.
As for flowers with practical uses, white heather is known for treating arthritis. This flower has been associated with luck since the 1800s and soldiers would wear white heather into battle. They believed it was a symbol of protection and it is also said that this plant does not grow where blood has been shed.
Delphinium, or Larkspur, is said to be named after Delphi – a sacred temple. This temple was a beautiful dedication to Apollo, the sun god. This was done to please Apollo and gain his favour. In England, the roots of this plant was used in love potions.
Bamboo might not be a flower but it is often included in oriental flower arrangements. Bamboo is tough and it tends to grow particularly fast. It is associated with luck and it is most lucky whe received as a gift.
Basil is commonly carried in pockets by people in Mexico. Basil is not only great in various dishes, but it is believed to attract wealth. In India, it is placed in cash registers. This is done to help attract customers. Also in India, basil is considered to be a symbol of luck and this is why it is often given as a gift to new home owners.
