Flower crown craft instructions

During the summer months, there is an abundance of fresh flowers. This is the perfect time to create your flower crown. All you need are some basic supplies and a little imagination. Here are the steps you need to follow to make a stunning floral headdress.

What you need:

  • Flowers (suggestions are detailed below)
  • Foliage (suggestions are detailed below)
  • A roll of craft wire
  • Sharp pair of scissors
  • Floral tape for wrapping the stems together
  • Floral wire for securing your flowers

Flowers and foliage you’ll need:

There are different types of flowers that you can use in your crown. For focal flowers, you should look for spray roses, daisies, carnations, and even peonies. Your filler flowers can consist of statice, baby’s breath, snapdragons, and similar flowers. As for foliage, some nice options include ivy, eucalyptus, and lemon leaf.

Shape your crown

Use your craft wire to create the base for your flower crown. Measure the size you need by wrapping the string around the top of your head. Make sure you leave about half an inch of wiggle room. When you attach the flowers, it will make it smaller. If you plan to wear your hair a certain way, you should style your hair this way before you style your crown.

Wrap your foliage around the wire

Use the floral tape to secure the stems of the foliage to the floral wire. You want to create a lush green base and hide all the yarn.

Create small bouquets

Take three flowers and wrap the stems with floral tape. Wrap the ribbon from the base of the stems around the wire to secure the flowers to the wire frame. Be sure to combine your main and filler flowers in these clusters.

Finishing Touches

Be sure to join all clusters of flowers facing one direction in your flower crown. If you like, you can create a main focal point by using additional focal flowers in a particular location. The best place for this focus group is usually in front or to the side.

As you can see, making your own flower crown is super simple and doesn’t take much time. You can use it for a fun summer party and you can even make them for your kids. Kids love to wear flowers and this crown will always make a fabulous statement.
