Floral soap using pressed flowers

There are so many different varieties of soap on the market today. However, there are still so many people who love getting creative and making their own. When making soap, you can choose the theme and the scent to go with it. Floral soap is particularly popular and you can use it to spruce up your bathroom or even present as gifts to friends and loved ones.

You will need:

  • Clear melt and pour base
  • Essential oil or fragrance oil of your choice. You will need 0.25 ounces of oil for each pound of melt and pour base.
  • Rubbing alcohol (in a spray bottle for convenience)
  • Glass heat-resistant bowl (for melting the base)
  • Soap mold(s)
  • Pressed, dried blooms of your choice

Directions:

  • The first step to making floral soap is gathering all of the ingredients. Make sure that you plan your floral design for each soap bar before you begin.
  • To melt the base, you will need to place it in a glass bowl covered with plastic wrap and heat in your microwave for about one minute.
  • Even if there are a few unmelted chunks, you can stir the melt to ensure that these melt too.
  • Next, you need to add your essential oil as per the ratio mentioned above.
  • Mix the melt and oil well to ensure that the mixture is clear rather than foggy.
  • Pour a thin layer of this mixture into your molds and allow to set at room temperature. This should take about 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Press your dried flowers into the soap before lightly spraying with alcohol to get rid of any air bubbles.
  • Fill the mold with more of the soap melt mixture and spray with some alcohol again.
  • Allow to set and fully harden before you remove these soaps from their molds.

On a final note, make sure that you take care when selecting the melt and pour base for your floral soap. You need to use a clear product or the end result will be cloudy or foggy. If you want to add some colour so that your soap is not completely transparent, you can add a few drops of food colouring along with the essential oil. You may notice some bubbles start to form in the mixture but a few sprays of alcohol will get rid of them. Silk flowers will last longer but pressed flowers are also lovely. If you choose the latter, just make sure that you don’t wait too long to use your soap or the petals may become further discoloured.
