Floral snowman design step by step

Fresh flower arrangements are no longer just pretty blooms in a stylish vase. Designs have come a long way over the years and, today, we can enjoy many themed arrangements. With winter just around the corner, you might be particularly enthusiastic about building a snowman. Of course, if it has not snowed just yet, you can always make this floral snowman while you wait for those precious white flakes to fall.

You will need:

  • 3 floral foam balls. You will need three different sizes.

  • White blooms (like carnations).

  • A long, strong stick (to hold the three foam balls in place)

  • Green floral wire

  • A shallow base such as a cake stand on which to display your floral snowman

  • Accessories including a little carrot, sticks for arms, buttons to use as eyes, a small scarf, hat and so on.

Directions:

  • The largest foam ball will be the base for your floral snowman while the smallest one will be the head. The medium one will be the body, of course.

  • Start by cutting a piece off the largest ball to create a sturdy base. Slice a piece off the top part too.

  • Slice pieces off either end of the medium sized floral foam ball and off one side of the smallest ball. This will help create a more desirable end result.

  • Place all three balls on the stick to secure in place.

  • Submerge your floral foam balls in water to ensure that your blooms will remain hydrated.

  • Trim the stems of your flowers as you go and start inserting them into your snowman design working from the bottom up.

  • Once the entire design is covered with flowers, it’s time to add your accessories.

  • Use floral wire to secure the nose, eyes, buttons and hat in place. Insert the sticks for arms and wrap a scarf around his neck.

  • Place your snowman on a plastic tray to prevent water or the colour of the foam from staining your tablecloth.

Making your very own floral snowman can be a really fun family activity on a cold or rainy day. It will also give you a lovely centrepiece to show off when you have guests during the holidays. Remember, if you want the design to last even longer, you could always opt for silk flowers rather than fresh ones. This will also mean that you will not need to soak the foam in water.
