Floral décor for a summer engagement party

When hosting a summer engagement party, it’s important that you don’t box yourself in as far as décor and food is concerned. For example, the kind of flowers you use to decorate your wedding need not be the same as those you use to brighten up your engagement party. In fact, it’s better to avoid the use of the same flowers and colours for both events. They are separate events and should be treated as such.

In many cases, the flowers for an engagement party should provide an understated yet elegant appeal. You wouldn’t want your engagement party décor to outshine that of your wedding! Simplicity and elegance are both essential in this case.

Start by considering the theme of the party. Some choose a wine tasting style celebration, others prefer a more casual grill, and sophisticated parties with a spectacular view are also an option. If you want to host a wine tasting event, then you should have plenty of wine and glasses available for your guests. You will also need to serve a selection of cheeses and some fruit and breads too. Other options include an olive bar, perhaps some fresh hummus, and similar foods that will compliment the wines. As far as décor is concerned, make sure that you choose flowers that do not contain any toxic properties. Roses are usually the safest bet but your florist will have plenty more ideas too. You can also add some fresh grapes as part of the tablescape design.

When decorating a venue that offers a sensational view, you don’t want to overdo it. The main attraction here is the view so your flowers and décor should be a bit less obvious. Grilling outside is also wonderfully casual. You’re going to get all dressed up for your wedding day so, why not enjoy some casual social time with your loved ones and friends? If you have a pool, you might want to decorate with floating flower arrangements and candles. You can even add some torches to the garden for additional lighting. Keep your floral décor simple and natural. If you have flowers growing in your garden, you might be able to use some of them as part of the décor. Alternatively, you can order similar flowers from your florist to deck the tables and your garden will maintain its colourful appeal.

Bright colours are great for such happy events and they are best suited for summer celebrations. Don’t be afraid of stepping outside your comfort zone just a little bit and, if unsure, you can trust your florist to offer professional advice.
