Floating flowers make a stunning centrepiece

During the summer months, we are far more inclined to host parties and entertain guests. This is partly because of the weather and also because of the fact that the days are longer. When making plans for your next party, you will need to create a menu, choose the drinks you wish to serve and consider your décor too. Floating flowers make a lovely centrepiece for summer events.

What you need:

  • Flowers of your choice (preferably blooms with large flower heads)

  • Transparent bowls (like fish bowls)

  • Vase fillers (optional)

Instructions:

  • The number of blooms you need will depend on how many tables you have to decorate. Normally, you will only need one flower per arrangement.

  • Make sure that the size of each flower suits the size of the bowl you chose. You don’t want them to fill the entire bowl.

  • Make sure that you keep your flowers properly hydrated while you prepare each centrepiece.

  • Wash your transparent bowls thoroughly and fill them with fresh water and flower food.

  • At this point, you can add some vase fillers like pebbles, gems or even seashells.

  • When your vase is ready, you will need to trim the stems of your flowers. Trim them just enough that the stem will not be visible, but it will not cause the flower to fall apart.

  • Flat flowers are best because they will rest beautifully on top of the water. If you try using something like roses or tulips, they will not stay upright and the display will not be as appealing as those using floating flowers like gerbera daisies.

You can use these floating flowers to decorate your dinning tables as well as any food tables if you set up a buffet. Once your lunch or dinner is over, you can still enjoy these displays by placing them in various areas of your home. They should last just like any other cut flower arrangement since they still have a short stem and they are resting in clean water. The flower food will also help offer nutrients while keeping bacterial growth at bay.
