Edible bouquet gifts for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and we all know that fresh flowers are usually the number one gift for her. However, if you want to change it up a little this year, why not send an edible bouquet instead? These gifts are great because they take on the appearance of a bouquet but they are completely edible too! Not sure where to begin? Here are some fantastic ideas.

Marshmallow flower cupcakes

If you fancy baking, you can make this edible bouquet from scratch. If not, or if you are in a hurry, you can buy plain cupcakes and decorate them. Simply follow these steps:

  • Cut mini marshmallows in half.
  • Dip the cut part of the marshmallow in some coloured sugar (white sugar mixed with food colouring).
  • Coat your cupcakes with some white icing sugar.
  • Arrange your marshmallow petals around the edge of the cupcake and then add an inner layer. Continue like this until the entire cupcake is covered.
  • If you like, you can use yellow flower petals for the outer edge and fill the middle with chocolate chips to create a cupcake that looks like a sunflower.

Flower pot ice cream

This edible bouquet will take no time at all. You will only need a handful of supplies.

  • You will need a mini flower pot – preferably one made from clay or ceramics.
  • Make sure that you wash the pot thoroughly.
  • Add your ice cream to the pot.
  • Top with some chocolate pieces to make it look like soil.
  • Add a plastic or silk flower/plant to the pot and make sure you serve right away.

Flower cake pops

To make this fun and edible bouquet, you will need to start by making your usual cake pops. There are several recipes, so you can simply pick your favourite one and then, once they are ready, continue by following these steps.

  • Instead of coating white white or milk chocolate, you will need to use white chocolate with yellow food colouring. Make sure that you choose a non-water based colouring or it will cause the chocolate to seize.
  • Dip your cake pops in the yellow chocolate and allow them to stand.
  • While hardening, you can sprinkle some white or colourful sprinkles over the top.
  • You can also use this time to prepare your petals. Using balls of fondant (the colours are up to you), you will need to roll them out.
  • Make sure that you place them on top of a piece of baking sheet and place a piece of baking paper on top. Use a rolling pin to roll out your petals.
  • Now add them one by one to the exterior of each of your flowers. You might need to add a drop of water to help them stick.
  • Once set, you can also add some green leaves (made using the same rolling technique but this time with oval balls of green fondant).
  • Arrange your cake pops in a holder, add some decorative paper and a ribbon.

These are three easy, colourful and delicious edible bouquet gift ideas that you can make for Mother’s Day. Of course, if you don’t have much time or if you’re not all that great in the baking department, you can always buy a chocolate bouquet online at your favourite florist!
