Decorate your home with house plants

There are many different ways of adding life and colour to your home. Potted plants are a fantastic option for long-lasting natural décor. While cut flowers will eventually wilt and perish, house plants will last so much longer. Provided they are properly cared for, of course. When buying plants for your home, it’s important to plan ahead. Here are some tips to keep in mind when decorating your home with plants.

Colour

Some plants produce flowers while others do not. If you are looking for a particular colour to compliment your existing décor, you should order the flower while it is in bloom. This way you will know exactly what to expect. Brightly coloured orchids, germinis, and other blooms can really brighten up the room. Some flowers last longer than others so this is another important factor to consider.

Succulents

If you are not all that great at taking care of plants, then succulents and cacti are best for you. Unlike some other types of plants, succulents require minimal care and attention. They don’t need even need to be watered as much as other plants. Depending on the size of the plant, you can get really creative with regards to the container you use. Small succulents and cacti can be displayed in decorative teacups, for example, or even a mason jar, or similar containers based on just how big they are. You might need to transplant your succulent from time to time as they outgrow their container.

Ferns

Ferns are also extremely popular houseplants. They have a wonderful freshness about them and they can really fill up an empty corner or bare space. Ferns thrive in humid conditions, much like potted orchids, which is why it’s recommended that you add a humidity tray or a glass of water close to the plant. If you want to use the tray option, simply choose a tray that will exceed the size of the drip tray of the plant. Place pebbles in this tray and then add water. The pebbles help maintain a healthy distance between the tray of water and the pot soil. The water will evaporate and fill the air around the plant which will keep it very happy!

Location

Finally, never underestimate the importance of location. Finding the perfect home for your plant is vital for its survival. Some plants enjoy direct sunlight and others prefer shade. Make sure that you understand the needs of your plant before choosing a location. At the same time, make sure that you choose a spot that will benefit the room. The whole point of buying a plant is to enhance the décor so it needs to attract a fair amount of attention.
