Christmas vase ideas for every style

When placing Christmas flowers on your living room or dining room table, you may be inclined to opt for something classic and elegant, like a clear glass vase or even a red or white vase. However, if you don’t have any particularly elegant vases in your cupboard or if you’re looking for something different, there are plenty of great ways to liven things up with your own Christmas vase.

Candy cane design

An excellent idea is to opt for a shorter floral arrangement and place the flowers inside a low, cylindrical vase. The vase doesn’t need to look good because it will be completely covered. The important thing is to choose a vase that is a little shorter than the normal candy cane. Stock up on enough candy canes (or maybe buy a few extra in case you’re craving a sweet snack) to cover the outside of the jar. Make sure the candy canes you use are wrapped in plastic if you want to eat them eventually. If you prefer to use them purely as decoration, you can remove the plastic if you prefer. Place the flowers in the vase and then add the candy canes to the outside of the vase with the rounded parts at the top, facing out. You can use various materials to attach the candy canes to the vase. If you want something strong but not permanent, try using small pieces of blue tack. You can also wrap some festive ribbon around the centre of the Christmas vase to ensure it doesn’t fall.

Easy tape design

Another great idea is to use a red jar and add evenly spaced strips of tape. Angle them to create the same pattern as a candy cane. Use mod podge to cover areas that aren’t covered with tape. Let the mod podge dry before applying a layer of white paint. This helps the white paint really stand out and reduces show-through. Once dry, remove the tape to reveal the perfect red and white stripe design.

For short-stemmed flowers

If you want to do something really simple, you can use a short vase and find a square box a little larger than the Christmas vase to hide it. Cut off the top of the box and cover it with your favourite wrapping paper. You can also attach Christmas ribbon to each side to create the impression of a wrapped present. With its flowers sprouting beautifully above, this display also makes a great Christmas gift for your loved ones.

These are just three great holiday ideas. While you look around your home and find various strange things, there are many other creative creations that can turn any ordinary vase into a celebratory piece and a memorable Christmas vase that can be used year after year.
