Choosing the perfect fillers

Flower arrangement fillers come in all shapes, sizes, and colours. One of the best ways to give a bouquet even more style is by using berries as fillers or accents. When working with berries, however, it’s important to make sure that you work with the right berries and follow the proper guidelines.

When choosing berries for your arrangement, you will need to select them based on the colour scheme of your bouquet. You will also need to make sure that you don’t accidentally choose poisonous berries. If you do work with berries that could be toxic, you will need to make sure that you don’t let your pet or children come into contact with them. Another option is to choose artificial berries rather than the fresh variety.

Red berries can really help make your arrangement ‘pop’ when you use a selection of white flowers, lush green foliage, and some lovey red blooms like roses. Orange berries can also have a lovely effect when paired with red, orange, yellow and plum blooms.

Other than berries, other fillers include small flowers like baby’s breath. The size of your filler flowers will depend on the size of your focal flowers and the arrangement. The larger they are, the larger your fillers can be.

You don’t have to stick to fresh plant material when it comes to fillers. You can also use dried sticks, pine cones, cinnamon, and even feathers! These items can be used in their natural state or you can paint or dye them if you like.
