Allergy friendly flowers

There’s nothing more rewarding than spoiling somebody special with an unexpected gift. Fresh flowers are a popular and well-received gift for all occasions and when that flower delivery is made, you can be sure the recipient will be overjoyed! That said, there are a number of people out there who suffer from allergies. As soon as they are anywhere near fresh flowers, their eyes start to water, sneezing begins, and other related symptoms take hold. This is sometimes enough to put people off sending flowers at all. However, it’s important to note that there are a number of fantastic allergy friendly flowers to choose from!

Allergies are caused by coming into contact with the pollen but it’s important to note that not all types of pollen are the same. Some flowers reproduce by allowing the wind to spread their pollen. Other flowers rely on insects and birds because they have heavier pollen. Flowers with heavy pollen do not release spores into the air which means that they will not be inhaled.

Another important tip to remember is that you can ask your florist to remove the pollen from the flower before making the delivery. In many cases, removing the pollen actually helps flowers last even longer! This can only done with certain flowers like various types of lilies, for example, because their pollen is easy to accesss.

Some flowers that you should avoid sending to somebody with allergies include daisies, sunflowers, and chrysanthemums. Various types of grass are also used in flower arrangments and they can also trigger allergies. Of course, for the most part your florist will add allergy friendly foliage to their arrangements.

As for flowers that are safe to send, you still have plenty of options! You can send roses, tulips, zinnias, pansies, petunias, geraniums, and daffodils. Again, with regards to lilies, you can ask your florist to remove the pollen. If you want to play it extra safe, send a bouquet of Roselilies. These hybrids are unlike anything else on the market! Not only are they wonderfully fragrant and gorgeous, they are also pollen free which makes them perfect for anyone with allergies.

So, whether you are interested in making your own arrangement, or you want to order a bouquet from your favourite florist, you should always keep allergies and allergy friendly flowers in mind!
