Creative flower arrangements in glasses

There are so many different ways of showing off colourful flowers. While the most common ideas involve floral foam or vases, some people don’t realise how great flowers can look in the right cocktail glass.

The first thing you need to do is choose the right kind of glass. The glass will determine the best types of flowers and the number of flowers per glass. A shallow glass is perfect for lightweight flowers since you wil need to cut the stems fairly short or they will be top heavy. Deeper glasses can hold heavier flowers because they will have a longer stem to anchor them in the glass. If you want to play it safe, you could even decorate the exterior of the glass and use floral foam inside the glass to hold each stem in place.

It’s important to note that there are various colour glasses and types of glasses available. You can find some glasses with twisted stems and there are also those made of plastic if you want glasses that will prove more durable.

As for the types of flowers, you want to give your arrangements a tropical feel so lilies are definitely on the list along with fruit blossoms, perhaps orchids, and any flower with a bright colour. You should have one large flower in the glass and add a few smaller flowers with various textures and heights. Tall, small filler flowers can be added for height without making the arrangement top heavy. If you want to add foliage, make sure that you keep it to the minimum and use small or slender leaves.

This method can also be used to create more elegant displays as part of a tablescape if you like. You will need a cluster of three glasses and you want to make sure that they each contain different flowers or the same flowers but alternate colours. When creating elegant displays, you should use clear glass cocktail glasses and avoid using floral foam. You can also add candles, battery powered candles, or fairy lights to your tablescape as well if you like.
