Summer flower arrangement DIY design

The perfect summer flower arrangement is full of colour and a wide variety of textures. A summer bouquet should be a representation of all the flowers available during the summer season. There are so many different flowers available at your local flower shop and online, so you may find it difficult to choose just a few flowers. The following flowers in the materials needed list are a guide. If any of them are unavailable for any reason, you can exchange them for similar flowers. The same goes for foliage. Try to include different types of foliage to vary the texture and give it a natural look.

What you need:

  • 5 orange gerbera daisies

  • Between 5 and 7 blue irises

  • 3 to 5 bundles of yellow lilliums

  • 8 red roses

  • A mixture of 2 or three kinds of foliage including ferns

  • A rubber band and decorative ribbon

  • A sharp pair of scissors

  • Colourful tissue paper (optional)

Directions:

  • When searching for a variety of blooms for your summer flower bouquet, you will notice how many flowers are available in warm colours. You really can play around with colours and colour combinations.

  • Start by placing a single iris in the middle and add one lilium on either side.

  • Next add a rose on the opposite sides.

  • Add a few gerberas and some foliage.

  • Add the rest of the irises, liliums, gerberas and roses. Make sure that you alternate between the different blooms so that they aren’t clustered together.

  • Complete the design with a few fern stems.

  • Wrap a rubber band around the stems to hold them in place.

  • Trim the stems to the same length and conceal the rubber band with a ribbon.

  • Make sure that you keep the blooms in some fresh water until you are ready to present them. Flower food in the water will help keep these blooms happy.

  • Wrap tissue paper around the bouquet just before you are ready to deliver it. Three to four sheets will do nicely. Make sure that you choose a colour that will compliment the colours in the bouquet.

**NOTE: There are also a number of other flowers available all year round, such as carnations, which come in such a wide range of colours that you are sure to find the perfect one for your summer flower bouquet. No matter what type of blooms you use, include a variety of warm colours and be sure to condition them so they last as long as possible. This bouquet can be sent in a vase or without a vase. Tissue paper is more than enough to provide a gorgeous presentation or you can skip the paper and use a vase instead.
