Holiday party décor for your home

The holidays aren’t the same without some kind of celebration. Whether you’re planning to throw a real raging holiday party or an elegant dinner with friends, you need to make sure your home is decorated appropriately. No matter what type of party you’re throwing, you want to make sure the decor doesn’t take over your home. You don’t want your guests to trip three times on the way to the bathroom.

Festive flowers

First things first: When you display flowers or plants in your home, you need to make sure they are not poisonous in any way. You can’t monitor your holiday party guests at all times and you never know what kind of madness will happen! This is even more important when you have children or babies on your guest list. Babies and toddlers have to put various inedible things in their mouths. The last thing you need is a sick child at Christmas!

Magical mistletoe

Secondly, mistletoe is a wonderfully festive and popular decorative element for any holiday party. That said, fresh mistletoe is actually toxic. Even if you hang it out of reach, a piece could fall to the floor and a beloved pet or child could ingest it. Choose artificial mistletoe and play it safe!

Cheerful colours

As for colours, you need to choose a theme. Years ago, and even today, there are homes that choose to decorate their Christmas tree with as many different colours as possible. On the other hand, there are those who prefer something a little more elegant like a red and gold or silver and blue theme. If you prefer, you can also decorate your green tree with red and white ornaments. These themes are both elegant and festive. They are also very easy to make and you can continue the theme throughout your home. Make sure you also have enough soft lighting. Strong lights will ruin the atmosphere and your holiday decor will not look so beautiful. Twinkle lights and candles look amazing. For those who want to avoid the risk of open flames, it is possible to use candle-shaped lights with LED globes. Not only do they stay cooler than regular bulbs, but they also require less battery power and last longer.

Lastly, don’t forget that festive scent! The smell of various spices, live cloves, cinnamon and anise will make your guests feel truly welcome. You can make your own potpourri and place bowls throughout the house. Make sure these bowls are out of reach of little ones! You wouldn’t want them to snack on potpourri instead of your special holiday party treats.
