Wedding flowers on a budget

When planning your wedding, it won’t take long before you realise just how expensive it can be. Flowers are one of the greatest expenses if not planned properly. Fortunately, if you take the necessary steps, you can enjoy beautiful blooms on your big day without breaking the bank!

Firstly, set your budget. This means that you will need to have an idea of your overall budget and how much everything will cost. Price your venue, food, entertainment, dresses and suits, and any other extras. Once you know how much each will cost, you should have an idea of how much you can afford to spend on flowers.

Now you need to consider where you need your flowers to go. Each table will require some kind of floral décor but, if you are really strapped for cash, you can ask your florist to help you with a minimalist theme. In other words, instead of a full bouquet, you could opt for three bud arrangements and cluster them together in the middle of the table. You will also want some flowers on your buffet table (if applicable). Again, if you need to save money, you can have some handy helpers move flowers from your ceremony to the reception while you enjoy your photo session. You will need a bridal bouquet and flowers for your bridesmaids, groom, and best man.

Next, consider the season during which you are planning your wedding and the flowers that will be in season at this time of year. Seasonal flowers are the most reasonably priced which will help you save money. Remember that each flower has a price and, even when in season, some are more expensive than others. Ask your florist for their prices per stem so that you can figure out which ones really are the most affordable. The same goes for foliage! Not all types of foliage are the same price and you can save big if you ask for a quote on each type of foliage first.

Finally, find out about the cost of buying or renting vases from your florist versus buying your own. You never know which one will work out the cheapest so it’s worth costing each option before making your choice.
