Valentine’s Day flowers of choice

There is no disputing the fact that fresh flowers are the most popular gift for Valentine’s Day. For the most part, men do everything in their power to choose the very best bouquet and spoil their partners or spouses with the most romantic day of the year. Of course, these days the tables have turned slightly and Valentine’s Day is not only a day for men to spoil women, but women can also pamper their men!

The number one flower choice for Valentine’s Day is the red rose. Red is associated with Valentine’s Day in many ways (red hearts, red stuffed toys, etc) and red roses are the symbol of love and passion. All roses are associated with some kind of message of love but red roses do send the strongest message of all which is why they are perfect for this day!

If you are not keen on roses, for whatever reason, you could opt for carnations instead. Now, while roses generally mean love, carnations can send a message of love if you choose red ones! This is always the safest option since some carnation colours are known for having a somewhat negative meaning. Of course, if you are in a new relationship and you don’t want to scare your Valentine off, you could send a bunch of pink carnations much like you would a bouquet of pink roses. They send a message of love but without the same degree of intensity.

Orchids can be a bit more expensive per stem but they are the kinds of flowers that do not need to be sent in a huge bunch. You could even opt for a potted orchid and your Valentine will be able to enjoy it for more than just a couple of weeks!

Another elegant flower is the tulip and they are known for being somewhat delicate so do handle with care. These flowers are particularly thirsty so make sure that they are well hydrated and have your florist include some flower preserve to keep them as fresh as possible for as long as possible.

Lilies are popular for many occasions and they are available in several varieties, shapes, and colours. They can be displayed on their own or added to a mixed bouquet. The Peruvian lily is particularly popular since they are so beautiful and they are often used as focal flowers in arrangements.

Remember, if you are ever in doubt about the best types of flowers to send to your Valentine, take a moment to think about what they will like the most. Think about their favourite flower or even their favourite colour and then make your decision.
