Suitable foliage for Christmas bouquets

When putting together the perfect festive flower arrangement, you will need to choose your foliage very carefully. Christmas arrangements are no ordinary bouquets. They need to suit the theme and this means choosing the right colour scheme, flowers, and of course foliage. Green plays a significant role in all Christmas décor. From your Christmas tree to wreaths and table décor, you cannot deny the beauty foliage adds.

Depending on your preferences and your location, there are a number of different types of greenery to choose from. From fir and pine to cedar, these lush varieties of foliage will make any arrangement that much more festive. You can use one type of foliage or you can use up to three different types for extra variety. Each type of foliage offers a variety of options. For example, there are several types of fir including Douglas fir, Noble fir, and Silver fir. So, depending on the size of your bouquet and the effect you’re trying to achieve, you will need to select your foliage accordingly. It’s also important to remmeber that the foliage should never obscure the view of the flowers.

Of course, another option is to opt for something less traditional in terms of pine or fir. You could use something lush like pistacia instead. These leaves are lush but they are not so dense that they will turn your bouquet into a forest. You can even add this kind of foliage in between the bouquet. If you like, you can use pine or fir to create a base for your arrangement and add some pistacia in between.

Don’t forget the wonderful contrast that sticks and twigs can also create. During this time of year, when you look outside, you will notice how some trees have lost their leaves and others remain green throughout the year. You can create this same effect in your flower arrangements by adding dried sticks, pine cones, nuts, acorns, and cinnamon sticks. The various shades of brown look particularly beautiful when accompanied by dark green foliage.
