Pumpkin vase design ideas for autumn

The autumn season is perfect for decorating your home with warm colours. While temperatures might be dropping, you can still give your home that cosy feeling with pumpkins. They can be used in a number of ways to decorate your home – both inside and out. When it comes to interior décor, you can’t go wrong with a pumpkin vase. Not sure where to start? Here are some excellent DIY pumpkin designs that will help your autumn flowers stand out even more.

Spray paint

Clean out a fresh pumpkin and paint the exterior with gold or copper. This will completely transform the look of the pumpkin. It’s also great if your pumpkin has a few defects that you’d like to cover up. When using a fresh pumpkin vase, make sure that you place a container or jar inside the pumpkin. This will ensure that your flowers are set in clean water that will not be affected by the eventual decay of the pumpkin itself.

Mini arrangements

Not all pumpkins are large in size. You can find some amazing small pumpkins which make excellent vases. Select a few of your favourite pumpkins, hollow them out and create fabulous mini bouquets with just a handful of fresh blooms. Each pumpkin vase should have an uneven number of focal flowers and foliage. Filler flowers are optional but these small blooms, like baby’s breath, can have a huge impact on the overall design.

Look-alike

You don’t necessarily need a pumpkin to create a pumpkin vase. You can use an old tin and paint it orange, for example. Just remember that the lines on the tin will help create the perfect visual effect so don’t try to hide them. You can add a raffia ribbon around the tin if you like.

Ribbons

As briefly mentioned above, you can spruce up any pumpkin vase design by adding a ribbon. Raffia works well because it suits the autumn season. If you add wheat to your bouquet, it will also complement the colour and texture of the wheat.

These are just a few lovely ideas to consider when planning your next pumpkin vase display. Remember to choose the right blooms too. Some of the best options include sunflowers, gerbera daisies and chrysanthemums. Opt for colours that suit this time of year such as yellow, rusty orange and dark red as well as off-white.
