Make a vase for Valentine’s Day

The beauty of a flower arrangement depends largely on how the flowers are presented. This means that the vase you choose is extremely important if you want your bouquet to stand out. Now, this does not mean that you have to buy an expensive new vase. Instead, if you have a container or old vase, you can use it as a base to create your very own vase.

Things you need:

  • Old vase or container

  • Fabric or paper that will suit the flowers

  • Decorative ribbon

  • Glue

  • Scissors

  • Clothespin

  • Ruler or measuring tape

Instructions:

  • Choose an old vase or container and make sure that it is waterproof. Check any glass or plastic containers by filling it with water and letting it stand for a few hours. Remember, the container does not need to look perfect since you are going to cover it.

  • Clean the container or vase completely both inside and out.

  • Make sure that you dry it off thoroughly before you start decorating.

  • Measure the vase so that you can measure the fabric or paper accordingly. Even if you cannot use a ruler, you can use a piece of string and use the ruler to measure the string.

  • Now cut the paper or fabric so that it’s large enough to cover the entire external surface of the vase.

  • Secure the fabric to the vase with one or more clothespins.

  • Glue the fabric or paper to the vase piece by piece. Make sure that each portion is secured in place before moving on to the next portion.

  • Leave the clothespins in place and let the glue dry before removing them.

  • Once you are done, you can tie a ribbon around the vase for that final finishing touch.

Remember, you will need to trim the stems of the flowers to suit the size of the vase. The shorter the vase, the shorter the stems will need to be. It’s also important to avoid overcrowding the vase with too many stems. If you want, you can add accessories like Valentine’s Day flower picks. You can even add some trinkets to the ribbon that’s wrapped around the vase. No matter what, make sure that you always take your time and don’t rush the gluing process. If you remove the clothespins too soon, the fabric or paper could shift.
