How to make a simple rose flower arrangement
Roses are elegant and their beauty is timeless. This is probably why they have managed to stay so popular after all these years. The fact that there are so many different colours available also adds to the popularity of these flowers. Could you imagine Valentine’s Day without red roses everywhere? What about a sympathy bouquet where white roses tend to be at the top of everyone’s list. Apart from these occasions, roses are also favoured for decorating various parts of the home. The best part of all is that they are really easy to work with and you don’t need too much skill to make this simple yet stylish floral display.
You will need:
- Roses of your choice
- Glass vase (one with a base that is slightly wider than the top)
- Sharp scissors
- Flower food
Method:
- As soon as you receive your flowers or bring them home, you need to place them in some fresh water. Let them soak up some water before you start working with them.
- When you are ready, prepare your vase by adding clean water and some flower food (as per the directions on the package).
- Prepare your stems by trimming them one by one. Remove the leaves and thorns carefully and, while you’re at it, remove the guard petals. These are the exterior petals that keep the flowers in a bud form. By removing them, you will allow your rose to open completely.
- Trim the stems according to the size of the vase. You want to place your first stems somewhat diagonally so rather keep the stems longer than shorter.
- Cut the stems at an angle to ensure that they absorb as much water as possible. This helps prolong their vase life.
- Now, place your first rose in the vase. Rest the base of the stem to the left of the base of the vase and the flower to the right.
- Do the same with another rose but in the opposite direction so that the stems cross over one another.
- Work your way around the vase in this same pattern until the vase is full but remember not to overdo it! You want to leave enough space between the stems so that the flowers are not crushed.
- Finish off by placing some roses upright in the middle of the arrangement. The stems of the other roses will help keep these upright roses in place.
- Once all of your roses are in position, you can display this gorgeous arrangement anywhere you like! You can also make it any size you like depending on the size of your vase. Choose a single colour or multiple colours and get creative!
- Don’t forget to change the water regularly and retrim the stems as needed.
