Keep Alstroemerias fresher for longer

When you receive a fresh flower delivery, no matter the occasion, you want to make sure that they last as long as possible. While all fresh flowers will eventually perish, it’s important to remember that there are a few things you can do to help them stay fresher for longer. The longer your flowers last, the more you get to enjoy them which is why we always look for flowers that will not wilt after just a few days. If you receive a bouquet of Alstroemerias, there are a few steps you can take to ensuring that they stay beautiful.

  • Start by placing your flowers in a bucket of fresh, clean water.

  • While they are enjoying a good soak, you can prepare the vase. Since they are in water, you don’t need to rush through the cleaning process. Your vase needs to be clean and free of any chemical residue like soap.

  • Now you need to add some water and floral food. This food is designed to slow the growth of bacteria and provide nutrients to your flowers Make sure that it has completely dissolved before you add any flowers to the vase.

  • Remember to use room temperature water or luke warm water since this allows for better absorption.

  • As you select each flower stem, you need to check the stem and trim it to the appropriate length. Cut the stem at an angle to allow for greater water absorption. Better absorption ensures that your flowers will be properly hydrated and they will last longer.

  • In order to prevent air bubbles from entering the stems when you trim them, cut them under water.

  • Remove any lower leaves since you don’t want too much plant material below the water line. Bacteria grows on leaves and stems under the water so, to slow this process down, limit the amount of plant material in the water.

  • Once your Alstroemeria flowers are all trimmed and arranged in the vase, you can put them on display. These flowers are best displayed away from any direct sunlight. Keep them away from wind, extreme cold temperatures, and heat.

  • Change the water regularly and trim the stems every few days to promote absorption. Bacteria will grow around the base of the stems and they will become clogged if they are not trimmed every few days. Whenever changing the water, add more flower food as mentioned above.

  • If you notice any of your flowers start to wilt, remove it immediately or it will cause the rest of the blooms to perish along with it.
