Ideal plants for busy students

Student life is busy with all the demanding classes coupled with equal social demands. This is why students often tend to neglect themselves and their chores. For many, this is the first time they will be responsible for their own cooking and cleaning, which means that you can almost expect to find their dorm or apartment in less than perfect shape. With this in mind, when you want to send a potted plant to a student, you need to choose something that will not require much care. A plant that can handle being neglected to a certain extent.

Succulents and cacti are the number one choice for obvious reasons. If these plants can survive in the desert, they can surely survive dorm life. Succulents tend to thrive with minimal water and they don’t grow too fast either. The same goes for cacti. Remember, all cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti!

Bamboo is another great option. Unlike regular plants, they do not grow in potting soil. Instead, you can place some lucky bamboo in a vase with pebbles and water. The water will need to be changed every now and then because it will get dirty after several days. It’s best to use a transparent vase because this will make it easier to monitor the water level in the vase as well as the water quality.

Jade is an excellent option if you tend to forget to water your plants. They only need to be watered once a month and they will thrive! They are beautiful plants and perfect for adding some greenery to the room.

Aloe Vera is a lovely plant to grow if you have a sunny window in your dorm. They only need to be watered occasionally in the summer and even less frequently in the winter months. These plants will grow for years and they can be used in many homeopathic remedies. Remember, in the winter, you should make sure that the plant is not touching the window. The cold window can upset the plant. Other than this, it really is an easy plant to please.
