Fun decorative planter ideas

Decorating your home with potted plants is not just about the plant itself. It’s also about choosing the right planter. For the most part, planters are pretty plain. They are usually made from plastic and they are either brown, black, or sometimes white. These kinds of planters don’t add nearly as much colour, style, or elegance as a spruced up one can!

One idea is to scour your home (and perhaps the garden shed) for items you can re-purpose as planters. There are so many ideas and, remember, you don’t need to do away with the pot itself. You can simply look for something that is large enough to hold and conceal the pot. So it doesn’t need to have drainage holes if you are placing a pot with a drip tray inside it. Watering cans are a great idea and they are perfect for country style themes.

Another tip is to spruce up your existing planter with some Washi Tape. This special tape is available in various colours and patterns. It’s also easy to remove so you can change the design whenever you feel like it.

Spruce up an old planter by covering it in a gorgeous mosaic design. Simply use a hot glue gun to attach pieces of chipped tile or colourful glass to the pot. Make sure that it’s completely covered and fill in the gaps with a resin or even superglue if you prefer. This design will look great for a long time!

Depending on the material your planter is made from, you could even paint it. If you’re not much of a painter, you can still get creative by using tape to create an abstract design on the pot. Then paint the uncovered areas, allow to dry, and gently remove the tape to reveal your design!

If you have a plain white planter, you can make it look like a million bucks with some gold foil. Cut out a few circles and paste them to the white or off-white planter and watch it transform into something far more elegant in minutes!

The key is to look around your home and figure out what you can use to make your planter unique. There are no strict rules and experimenting is a must! You never know until you try.
