Flower arranging tips and tricks

If you are new to flower arranging or if you want to create something truly memorable, you will love these amazing tricks. Once you give them a try, you will wonder how you ever created arrangements before!

Teacup vases

Some flowers have short stems and they might seem difficult to display. There are also times when you buy blooms and a few stems arrive damaged. Damaged stems need to be cut and this means that the flower cannot be displayed with the rest. Not to worry because you can always put a pretty teacup to good use. All you need to do is trim the stem along with some foliage and perhaps some fillers to place in the teacup. This flower arranging technique will allow you to make the most of every flower you ordered!

Plants in dessert bowls

Small plants like succulents and cacti can be displayed in a variety of holders. You don’t need to keep them in the usual and unsightly plastic planter. Instead, place a few pebbles in the bottom of a dessert bowl and add cactus potting mix. Place your succulent or cactus in the bowl and top with more potting mix. Water lightly and make sure that you do not overwater. Since the bowl does not have draining holes, you will not need to water often at all.

Ice cube watering

Orchids and similar plants enjoy humidity and they don’t need too much water. The best way to water them is by placing a couple of ice cubes on the potting mix. The ice cube will melt slowly and add to the humidity while watering the plant lightly.

Vase in a vase

If you want to add a vase filler but you don’t want it to affect the quality of the vase water, this flower arranging tip is just what you need. All you need to is find two vases. One needs to fit inside the other with space to spare. Next, slice some oranges, lemons or limes and place the slices in the space between the two vases. They will look great for a few days until they will need to be changed. Around this time you will need to change the vase water anyway so it will work out perfectly.

Darker blooms

If you want to create an environment that is gender neutral or if you want to spoil your husband or boyfriend, you should avoid pastels. Choose darker colours instead. Dark flower colours are far better suited for a male recipient.

Removing rose petals

Flower arranging is not just about creating bouquets. It’s about creating the perfect atmosphere. Rose petals are perfect for decorating tables, as confetti or even to scatter on your bed when you want to create the perfect night of romance. To remove rose petals without damaging the petals, grip them gently and slowly twist them off the stem.

With these tips and tricks in mind, you too can take your flower arranging skills to a whole new level. Remember to always keep a colour wheel handy when creating your design. It will help you choose the best combinations.
