Floral scents to help baby relax

Whether you have just had your first baby or this isn’t your first rodeo, you will soon find out that parenting is not without its challenges. One of the first hurdles that parents face is trying to help baby relax and sleep. Getting baby to sleep for at least a few hours and get into some kind of routine can be tough. However, with the help of certain floral scents, you can make this transition phase that much easier.

Lavender scents

One of the most well-known relaxing floral scents is lavender. These flowers have a soothing and calming effect on the mind and body. Older children and adults find lavender tea particularly helpful and it can prove to be fantastic sleep aid. When it comes to babies, however, tea is not recommended. Instead, you can use lavender essential oil on their pillowcase to soothe them through the night. There are also several baby products that include lavender in their recipes. Remember, it’s also about creating a routine.

Choosing products

When selecting bath and body products for baby, look for those made by reputable brands. Usually, those that include lavender are purple in colour so they are easy enough to find even when shopping in a hurry. You may find other floral scents too, just be aware of how each scent varies and give each product at least a week or so before making changes, if needed. Of course, if you notice any allergic reactions like skin irritations, you should stop using these products right away. Laundry detergent is another product that you can find in various scents. So, look for one that will be gentle enough for baby and includes a soothing scent.

Chamomile

If you are looking for other floral scents, you can try chamomile. Like lavender, chamomile can be enjoyed as a tea. However, it is not recommended for young babies. That said, chamomile tea for babies has been developed in order to help soothe the symptoms of colic. Make sure that you only use baby products or it could prove too potent for their delicate stomach. You can also add chamomile to baby’s bath water if you like.

These are the two top floral scents from which you can choose. Remember that it can be particularly helpful to use them before bedtime and take the time to give baby a massage before bed. Soft music and dim lighting also help.
