Floral displays and where to show them off

There are few things better than the surprise of receiving a bouquet of fresh blooms delivered to your door. Whether it’s your birthday, Mother’s Day, anniversary or any other occasion, a fresh flower delivery will certainly make you smile. Of course, we all want to make the most of our floral displays which is why it’s important to choose the perfect spot for them. Here are some tips to help you find the perfect spot.

Sunlight

While plants need sunlight in order to grow, fresh cut flowers should not be kept anywhere near direct sunlight. Fresh cut flowers do not grow like plants do. The harsh rays of the sun will not only prove too warm, but they can even cause the petals to dry out and the blooms to perish prematurely.

Windows

If you place your flowers near a window that does not receive direct sunlight, make sure that the flowers are not in direct contact with the glass. This is especially important during the winter months. The temperature of the glass will drop significantly overnight in particular. If your flowers are in direct contact with the icy glass, it will shorten their lifespan. So, make sure that you place your floral displays far enough away from windows.

Windy areas

It’s also important to shield your floral displays from wind. Even the softest breeze can cause delicate petals to drop. Yes, some flowers are pretty tough but many blooms will not prove as lucky when faced with regular or frequent wind.

Sources of heat and air conditioners

Just like cold windows and the heat of direct sunlight, the extreme temperatures that radiate from fire places, heaters and air conditioners are all damaging to fresh floral displays. If you have an air conditioner or heat source in the room, make sure that you do not place your flower vase anywhere near it. Yes, you can still display blooms in this room but not too close to sources of heat or air conditioners.

Beware of pets

If you have pets, or children for that matter, you need to take care not to place your floral displays anywhere within their reach. Both animals and children are known for their curiosity. If they see or smell something new, they are that much more inclined to try to touch or even taste your pretty bouquet!

By keeping your floral displays in the right spot, you can be sure that they will do very well. Remember to change the vase water regularly and trim the stems every couple of days so that they are not affected by excessive bacterial growth.
