Essential tips for arranging fresh tulips

When you buy or receive fresh tulips, there are a few important things to remember in order to display them and help them last as long as possible. Here are a few important tips and design ideas to help you make the most of every tulip stem in your bouquet.

Straightening them up

Fresh tulips can arrive bent or they can bend a few days later. Fortunately, there is an easy fix that does not require any special tools or too much of your time. All you need to do is remove your tulips from the vase, place them neatly on some damp newspaper and roll them up together. Trim the stems and place the rolled up tulips in a vase with fresh, room temperature water. Allow them to rest for a few hours before removing the straightened up stems, unwrapping them and placing them in a vase with fresh water.

Arranging in a grid

Even the most experienced florist can find it challenging to make certain flowers, like fresh tulips, stay put. This is why grid arrangement designs are so popular. All you need to do is select a vase and create a grid pattern using transparent waterproof tape. Trim any excess tape off the edges of your vase. Add water and flower food to the vase. Now trim the stems of your flowers and place them one by one in the open squares of the grid. Arrange flowers around the edge of the vase before you add more blooms to the middle. Finish off your display by adding some foliage. Different types of eucalyptus make excellent additions to these bouquets.

Tall vase arranging

If you have a tall vase but your fresh tulips are too short, there’s an easy trick you can use. First, you need to find a vase that can fit inside your larger, taller vase. Next, you need to find a solid item to place inside the large vase as a support. A tin can is a great option. Place the can inside the vase and arrange your tulips in the smaller vase. Next, place the smaller vase on top of the tin can. Now you can enjoy a tall arrangement without having your blooms disappear below the brim. Remember, your exterior vase should not be transparent because it will obviously not look as beautiful as it should.

With these tips, you will be able to make the most of your fresh tulips from the moment they arrive until they eventually perish. Remember, you need to make sure that you change the vase water every couple of days and trim the stems if necessary.
