Creating the perfect autumn harvest tablescape

While many people believe that the summer months are the most abundant, the truth is that autumn also has plenty to offer. Just because the weather is cooler, does not mean that you no longer have more than ample decorative options. During these months, there is nothing better than a beautiful harvest tablescape to transform your dining room table.

The first thing you will need to keep in mind is the colours you plan on using. When it comes to a harvest theme, the most important colours are orange, yellow, brown, and some touches of dark green. When we think about the autumn season and the autumn harvest, pumpkins are most likely the first thing that will come to mind. Not only does this help guide your decisions as far as colours are concerned, but also the décor in general.

To create the perfect autumn harvest tablescape, you will need a selection of pumpkins, gourds, and squashes. You can also add pears and apples since these are also seasonal fruit. They also help add some rich colour to the display. A selection of autumn leaves, bark, wheat, and branches will also come in handy for this display as well as various other seasonal accessories.

If you plan on displaying flowers as part of your tablescape, you will need to select blooms that are the appropriate colour. If you are using a pumpkin as a vase, you should choose flowers that are significantly lighter or darker than the pumpkin. Alternatively, you can add a layer of dark green foliage around the top of the pumpkin (or the base of the flower arrangement) and then add just about any colour flowers you like. The greenery will help create a break between the pumpkin and the flowers which will help them stand out. Other types of vases you can use include brass pots, watering cans, and buckets. Some of these items can also be used to hold items other than flowers (like fruit).

Once your flower arrangement is set, it’s time to plan the rest of your display. Mini pumpkins and gourds are excellent and can be placed around the base of the flower display. Accessories like cinnamon sticks and branches can be added to the table or your flower arrangement or even both. Remember to place your selection of items along the centre of the table. If you have a round table, you can group several decorations in the centre. If the table is rectangular or oval in shape, you can use a longer display. Always make sure that your decorations do not take up any space on your place settings. Gold accents are also excellent but it’s good to remember that less is certainly more. Do not overdo it when it comes to the gold. They are only accessories and they should not steal all the attention.

For lighting, you can also add some candles. If you are worried about open flames, LED candles run on batteries which is excellent because they add the perfect amount of mood lighting without the flames.
