Cheap flowers when you need them most

If you have ever needed to plan an event on a strict budget, you will know just how tricky it can be. There are some parts of the plan that will consume most of your budget like renting the venue. Then, there are also certain areas where you will be able to negotiate and compromise. Flowers are one of these areas. However, it’s important to remember that compromising does not mean settling for less. You can still enjoy superb floral décor if you know how to shop for cheap flowers.

First things first, you need to consider what you are looking for. Take a moment to determine how many flower arrangements you need for each table, food tables, and freestanding décor. Think about the colours and types of flowers you would most like to have for the event and be prepared to substitute at least some of them in order to accommodate your budget. Speaking of which, you should have a clear idea of how much you will be able to spend and always aim slightly lower in terms of price. This will give you some wiggle room just in case the flowers are more expensive than you initially anticipate.

Secondly, you need to do some research before approaching any florist. This means that you should find out which flowers are in season and take note of various prices. By gaining a better understanding of the market, you will be able to tell if your florist’s prices are indeed fair. Don’t forget, some flowers are always more expensive than others which means that they might be completely off the table from the start.

At the same time, some flowers are normally cheaper like chrysanthemums, daisies, and carnations. You can use these cheaper flowers as your focal flowers and, since they are available in so many different colours, you won’t have any trouble finding the perfect fit for your event. Baby’s breath is a popular filler flower and you could even add a few asters as mass flowers if you like. While roses are usually slightly more expensive, you could still add a few to each arrangement for a change in colour and texture. It won’t push the price of the bouquet up too much.

As briefly mentioned above, seasonal flowers are a great option because they are usually the cheapest. In addition, when you buy seasonal blooms, you won’t need to worry about them wilting too soon. Flowers that are grown under artificial conditions or imported, might perish sooner rather than later. In addition, since there are extra costs involved in growing and transporting these flowers, they are also more expensive.

Don’t forget about adding foliage to give your bouquet a fuller appearance without increasing the price tag too much. That said, do not add too many leaves or your flowers will no longer be the main focus.
