Brighten your bathroom with summer flowers

A common problem in many homes is the struggle for space when it comes to decorating your bathroom. Such a small room has little space for decorative items which is why so many people don’t even think twice about floral displays. It is quite a shame since your bathroom is a communal area and it is one of the rooms that your guests will frequent during their visit. The good news is that you can use fresh flowers to make your bathroom more welcoming to guests. It’s simply a matter of choosing the right size and colours.

Many homes have tiny bathrooms with little more space than an area around the hand basin and a windowsill. Windowsills often receive a generous amount of sunlight during the warmer months and this can cause flowers to perish sooner than they should. For this reason, you should ask your florist about a flowering plant that enjoys plenty of direct sun. This plant would be perfect since it will add colour when in bloom and the green leaves will continue to decorate the room when not in bloom.

Bathrooms are also known for being particularly humid thanks to the regular use of water. For this reason, your florist may in fact recommend exotic or tropical flowers. They love the extra moisture in the air and the warmer temperatures will not bother them. Lilies and orchids are excellent flowers for such conditions. In fact, a potted orchid won’t take up much space but it will certainly prove impressive.

Roses also do well in warmer conditions but you might not find them throughout the year. That said, it’s always good to change your décor from time to time and seasonal flowers are far more affordable than those that are out of season.

If you are looking for flowers that will last considerably long and they don’t cost much, you can’t go wrong with carnations. Apart from orchids, they are the longest lasting cut flower on the market and they are available in a wide variety of colours.

Remember that regular care will also help your flowers last longer. Change the water regularly, remove any dying flowers, and trim the stems as needed. Never underestimate the power of a bud arrangement. Sometimes a small floral display is all you need to create the perfect focal point in this small room.
