Beauty benefits of plants

Aloe Vera

We use various plants to decorate our homes and even in our food. Each plant has its own benefits and there are some that you can even use during your regular beauty routine. Here are some of the most popular plants with beauty benefits.

Aloe can help treat a number of ailments. It is most appreciated for its skin benefits. Sunburned skin, acne and insect bites can all be treated with aloe. You can even use it to remove your make up without any unnecessary irritation.

Echinacea

This flower is known for its immune system boosting properties. It can also be used to reduce skin inflammation and to help speed up healing. Simply boil the roots and combine with a base oil (like coconut oil) to create your own lotion.

Lavender

Apart from its amazing smell, lavender can also be used as an anti-inflammatory. It can also help with burns and cuts. Place dried lavender sprigs in a jar with oil and set the jar in the sun. Allow to soak for at least 48 hours before straining and adding to your lotions.

Rose

Rose water has a lovely smell and can be used as a toner and moisturiser for mature skin. You can purchase rose water or make it yourself. You simply need to place some petals in a pan and cover them with water. Heat on low until the colour drains from the rose petals. Strain, allow to cool and enjoy!

Mint

Mint is often used as a garnish or even an ingredient in sauces and cocktails. As a beauty product, mint can stimulate the skin and this is why it makes an excellent ingredient in toners and lotions. It also helps reduce skin irritations. Wash your mint leaves before crushing them and placing them in a jar with your carrier oil. After one day, strain the oil and add more crushed mint leaves. Repeat this for five days before using. We use various plants to decorate our homes and even in our food. Mint is often used as a garnish or even an ingredient in sauces and cocktails. Although these are all natural oils and infusions, it is important to test them before use. Apply some of the product to the soft part of your lower or upper arm (where the skin is generally more sensitive). Wait for at least 24 hours before using on your face and neck.
