Fresh flowers can be displayed in so many wonderful ways. From vases and floral foam to sprays and flower wreaths, there are so many creative ways to decorate your home, work place and any other space you like. If you are in the mood for some creative floral fun, here is how you can make your very own floral wreaths with just a few basic supplies.

You will need:

  • Hoops such as embroidery hoops (various sizes if you want to make a larger design)
  • Paint and paint brush if you are using embroidery hoops
  • Floral tape if you are using a hula hoop or metal hoop
  • Hot glue with hot glue gun
  • Floral wire
  • Flowers and foliage of your choice

Method:

  • The first thing you need to do is choose your base. Embroidery hoops are great because they are really easy to work with and you don’t have to worry about your flowers or foliage slipping out of place. Of course, hula hoops and similar products are often cheaper and they can be covered by paper or another material to make it easier to secure your flowers.
  • If you are using embroidery hoops, you can paint them the colour of your choice based on the theme or colour scheme you want to create. Acrylic paint works best but you can try with other types of paint if you like. Even spray paint can do the trick. You may need to apply multiple layers so make sure that they are thin. Thinner layers dry faster.
  • The next step when making flower wreaths is attaching the foliage. Make sure that the paint has dried completely before wrapping tape or wire around the stems of your foliage and then attaching them to the hoop.
  • If you are using a hula hoop or a metal hoop and your stems keep on sliding around, you can use a drop of hot glue to secure them in place. Do this on the back of the hoop so that it’s not visible.
  • You can attach the foliage to one part of the wreath and leave some areas completely uncovered. Since you have painted or decorated the hoop, you don’t have to cover it completely with foliage like conventional flower wreaths.
  • Now it’s time to add the blooms to complete your wreath. Just like your foliage, you need to secure the blooms to the hoop. Flowers can overlap your foliage but make sure that you space them out properly. Choose a direction and make sure that they are all facing the same direction.
  • If you are using a single hoop, you can suspend it, secure it to a door or wall or display as you like.
  • If you want to create something a bit more intricate, you can use several hoops of different sizes to create a few floral wreaths. You can then glue them together. So you can use a larger hoop as your main wreath and secure smaller ones here and there to create an abstract design before putting it on display.

Remember, if you want to hang your flower wreaths, you can use fishing line. Transparent fishing line will go unnoticed and it is very strong too. This design is great for fresh flowers but you can also make longer-lasting displays by using silk blooms if you like.
