Valentine's Day flowers

No matter the event, when you are hosting a breakfast, lunch, or dinner, it’s important to make sure that the table is properly set. This goes beyond simple cutlery and crockery. Even if you are planning a romantic meal for two, you want to make sure that the table looks just right and sets the tone for the rest of the evening. If you want to make this Valentine’s Day the best yet, here are some table décor tips to remember.

Flowers

Fresh flowers are a must when it comes to decorating your table for Valentine’s Day Roses are the number one choice and red roses are particularly romantic. That said, they are not your only option. There are several types of roses and various colours available too. You could choose a bouquet that consists of a number of different types of roses in several colours, for example. You can leave the bouquet as it is and place it in a vase in the middle of the table or your could create your own tablescape. This is done by making several small flower arrangements that you then cluster or line up together on the table. So, if you have a bouquet of roses in three different shades of pink, you can separate the roses and place bunches of three in each of your three smaller vases. Cluster them together in the middle of the table before adding something extra like a few luxury chocolates bundled in some lace or tule for instance. Remember, the vases you use should be fairly short so that they do not obstruct your view of your partner from the other side of the table. Shorter vases mean that you will need to trim the stems accordingly.

Candles

Candles are an excellent alternative in terms of lighting and they help set the mood. While regular wax candles were popular in the past, many people now choose battery-powered candles instead. They are far safer and you can even find those with a flicker feature which gives your candle that truly natural and realistic look. Depending on the size of the candle, you may only need one or perhaps a cluster of three. Odd numbers always work best – both with the flowers and candles.

Things to avoid

Avoid trying to cover your table with too many decorative items. Yes, you want the table to look good but you don’t want it completely covered with decorations. Your tablecloth should be plain and white if possible. This will allow the flowers to really stand out. Confetti in the shape of hearts or cupids used to be quite fashionable but this is not really the case anymore. While they can be used for Valentine’s Day events that involve larger groups of people, they are not ideal for romantic and intimate dates. If you really want to scatter something on the table, consider a few sweet-smelling rose petals here and there. Again, do not overdo it! Less is more, as they say.
