Orchids are associated with opulence and luxury. These glorious flowers can be added to flower arrangements or enjoyed as potted plants. No matter what, they are always impressive. Another interesting fact about these flowers is that they are available in several varieties as well as different colours. Like many other flowers, these flowers can also be coloured artificially in order to obtain the desired results. However, this is not simply a matter of spray painting the petals! The process is somewhat more complex.
When colouring orchids, a hole needs to be made in the stem. The coloured dye is then injected into the hole. Remember, care must be taken not to force this process along. Once you notice that the colour has made its way to the flower, the hole can be sealed with some wax. Within the next 24 hours, the flower will take on its new colour.
If you are feeling adventurous, you can attempt this process yourself. However, the dying process is usually best left to the professionals since these plants can be quite sensitive when undergoing such treatments. A coloured orchid will require some extra care and a regular supply of water is a good place to start. Use ice cubes instead of water since they will melt and provide the roots with moisture over a longer period of time.
Finally, don’t forget to keep the hole covered with wax no matter what. This is to protect that flower stem as well as the plant as a whole.
